Who Says!!

Who says you have to wear a white wedding dress?
Who says you can't wear new rock boots under a bridal gown?
Who says if you have an unconventional wedding new, you'll regret it later?
Who says you have to have to have a traditional day?

I'll tell you who, even one who also say "It's your day honey, its all about what you want." But what you can almost always add on to the end of that is so long as you have it the same way as everyone expects you to.

I've run up against this problem constantly over the last year as I've tried to organize my own wedding and unfortunately I think I've ended a few too many conversations with "MY day I'll do what I like." I may be coming off as a bridezilla but the more people tell me I cant do something the more irritated I get.

But what really makes me sad is when a client comes to me with an interesting idea, something different and unique which really shines with their own personality and they shy away from it because its not traditional, or worse because their family says its not traditional. It makes me sad because on the biggest day of her life when everyone is saying to do what she wants, shes also feeling the need to do something that everyone expects.

To all those bbrides I say this, the man you are marrying fell in love with you, not (one would hope) inspite of your quirks and unusual tastes but because of them, and when he is standing at the alter, sea shore, stone table...whatever and her turns around to see you walking towards him, he will want to see you, not every other bride that has come before you.

Be your self, have your day. Who says you can't?
